Meanwhile I found that the dpkg segmentation fault is due to the LANG environment settings.
dpkg not only segfaults with the already reported xemacs-installation, but already when you type "dpkg -i non_existant_filename" and you have set LANG to "nl" or "de". This is true for both, locales version 2.0.7t-1 and 2.0.7.19981211-1 and for both, dpkg version 1.4.0.23.2 and 1.4.0.31. I have installed libc6 2.0.7.19981211-1 and kernel 2.2.0-pre4
