Package: dpkg Version: 1.4.0.31 When TMPDIR is set (/home/user/.tmp in my case) dpkg fails to perform certain functions, specifically --info. This affects the use of the ftp method (that I know of) in that it can't get the information to check whether the .deb file can be removed or not.
