We talked about it before and I recall that this idea has the problem that it must be implemened in a high level GUI like dselect or gnome-apt, a commandline tool like apt-get can't make use of it properly. The problem is that once you upgrade the old version of the split up package to the new version you loose the association that you should upgrade other packages. Now this if perfectly fine if the install never fails, but we haven't got there yet :> Jason
