After a bit I discovered I had another, incompatible install-info
program on my system and it appeared on PATH before the "standard" one
in /usr/sbin.

Really, I think apt-get, dpkg, etc. should set up a canonical path
before they "do their thing" to avoid issues like this.

I tried to modify this bug via the web but couldn't get to it last
night; maybe it takes a while to appear once I email it?
