I thought that since the conffile is not in the new package, and I never modified it, it should be deleted by the upgrade. But what you say makes some sense. I apologize if this is intended behavior. It would be very nice if dpkg would suppress the warning when the only things in the directory are conffiles (and directories). I think this would make many more upgrades warning-free, which I hope is a goal. Thanks for your reply, Andrew
