The serious drawback that you missed is that the dpkg-desc.mo file would have to include translations for every description ever published by the Debian project, for at least 3 releases. Otherwise installing a new dpk-desc.mo could make descriptions for packages already installed go away. These files will be huge too, likely larger than the package files. Jason
