Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.9.21
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ man 822-date
...
BUGS
This facility really ought to be part of date(1),
...

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ man date
...
       -R, --rfc-822
                     output RFC-822 compliant date string
...

The "/bin/date" program is in the shellutis required/base package, so
it is on every system, and it has the features of 822-date. I think the
following files are not required:
    dpkg-dev: /usr/share/man/man1/822-date.1.gz
    dpkg-dev: /usr/share/man/sv/man1/822-date.1.gz
    dpkg-dev: /usr/bin/822-date
    dpkg-dev: /usr/share/man/ja/man1/822-date.1.gz
Maybe make a simple /usr/bin/822-date shell script or similar for
compatibility, and a "redirector" manual page to the date's manual.

That's nice for operating systems where we can modify date, but
dpkg runs on other operating systems as well.

Wichert.
