The wish here is that --forget-old-unavail make dpkg forget about packages that are "hold ok not-installed" as well as about those that are "purge ok not-installed", since some people still have records of never-installed packages with that status: > polya:~ $ grep-status -F Status "hold ok not-installed" -s Package | wc -l 1942 On my system, originally installed in the months before potato was released, I get 0 from the same command.
