Hi, A few weeks^Wmonths ago, I started trying to attain a deeper understanding the dpkg maintscript interface; I kept some notes which I've now organized into what is now a not-so-short document describing the internal behavior of dpkg, its intent, mechanisms, properties and the maintainer script interface. I think much of dpkg is poorly understood by the developer community, which is unfortunate, since package management is one of the most defining characteristics of the project.
I hope to continue polishing it, and eventually release it to the developers at large.
