Can you document how to run the checks that the code is supposed to pass?

Ideally it could be integrated in debian/rules check if DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS
contain "maintainer-build".

/me has an alias dpkgbuild='debuild -eDEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=maintainer-build -j2
