this looks complicated.

sure, but this wont be resolved anytime soon.
one other workaround would be to make a installation package
which will download and install the existing squeak packages.
drawbacks:
* it will require internet access.
* it would interrupt the installation with questions
* it would be software with a really awkward license, not even
suitable for non-free.
