Hello Mari. You named the pro`s for a announcement list. Even though I agree to most of your arguments, I experienced one con as well: The central decision to be made will be if to restrict announcements to the corresponding list, only. There has been such discussion on some regional LUG list which was really annoying: Some people (most active ones) feel obliged to subsribe to both lists - and object to crosspostings. These (however) are multi-subscribers who can cope with mail filters. Other people subscribe to one list, only and are excluded from any message that runs on the other one. In the end, the decision was made not to crosspost announcements to the regular list. In my opinion this would exclude readers that are not subscribed to the announcement list. Before voting pro or con such list, I'd like to have this policy clear. Alternatively to another list, I could imagine some well-defined tag that marks announcements (like: subject starts with "[announce]"). Lazy list readers can profile their mail filters for this tag then. What do you think? Regards Ralf.
