I believe the "bigger" issue you describe is "upgrades being forced interactive", asking annoying questions about what to do with conf(ig)files changed at initial install by debian-edu. The issue I raise is about packages breaking(!) on upgrades. Not the same. Breakage is IMHO the bigger issue. If I remember correctly, my experience was that when upgrading a symlinked conffile, changes were applied to the redirected configfile and then the symlink is removed. Possibly I am describing an ancient bug of dpkg long fixed - that's why I asked: Have you _tested_ upgrades of what you describe as the "best idea we came up with" or just assumed that it would behave sanely? - Jonas - -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist og Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ - Enden er nær: http://www.shibumi.org/eoti.htm -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFCtcqFn7DbMsAkQLgRAsn9AKCM+v7lPZ1L1IFYmRWzLmFuBvRcowCfZgb0 5rcXdC5w83JyUFDVJyO/iAY= =G8Oh -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
