Edubuntu will be a new school-focused derivate of the Ubuntu. The weekend of 1-3 of July 2005 they had invited many participants that make free software more suitable and usable for schools. People from different distro-project as Guadalinex, Llurex and tuXlabs where present and presented their experiences. Also people from Skolelinux/debian-edu, K12LTSP and tuXlabs where present and told about their experiences. Petter Reinholdtsen and Knut Yrvin presented Skolelinux/debian-edu at the summit.
The most important users where also present, the teachers from different schools, and persons with experiences with rolling out Linux installations at many schools. The delegates from tuXlabs presented how they guided schools to start up with Linux in South Africa. Skolelinux were telling about the importance of architecture, half thick clients, and why our native language is an important part of the computer programs. An interesting thing is that three regions in Spain have > 200,000 workstations with Linux installed today. That will increase. Andalusia have a goal to install 200,000 workstations from 2005 to 2006. Valencia starts out with 45,000 installations. By the end of 2007 the number will have raised to 1000,000. Combined with the effort in Extremadura, 1/3 of the pupils in the schools in Spain will use Linux by the end of 2007.
