Have a test box with sata disks, it runs fine with recent 2.6 kernels.
But, though Skolelinux pr06 is said to install 2.6 kernel by default, the
install-cd's default expert mode does not seem to boot a 2.6 kernel.
It simply won't find the harddisk. There's no strangeness with the interface, it
boots fine from pr05 and from /dev/hda at that.
Booting with 'expert26' panics at a kernel module it won't find.
Option 'linux' (and 'expert') boot fine, but don't want to waste the test box
installation today, so it'll have to stop in time for now.
