Hi Well, for those of you willing to work on debian-edu/skolelinux on powerpc hardware, i forward here the genesi offer of hardware donation for specific projects, which i think could benefit those (or if you have other kind of projects, you may be interested too).
Genesi has a developer program, which includes hardware donation to specifically selected projects going : http://projects.ppczone.org/projects.php No laptop (yet, there is a sub-laptop planed around the efika design, which may be of interest into the educational market, but no ETA yet), but a wider ariety of models are available or will be soon, so have a look. Among them are : - the ODW, pegasos machine in a flex-atx case. - the Efika, which is a low power soc design, dissipating around 5W global for the whole system and with a 8x12 cm form factor. - the high density blades, which consist in a 2U half length blade center space for 16 dual G4 blades, allowing for 32 blades (and thus 64 G4 cpus) in a 2U full sized rack unit. Hardware donation will be a special 2 blade + efika for control unit system. - the OSW, which is a dual 970MP BTX design, with june target release date. I feel that the Efika may be especially well suited for the educational market, as it can serve as very compact and low-power thin-client system, maybe in conjunction with one of the more powerful server, like the blades or the dual-dual-core-G5 machines. So, if someone feels like working on debian-edu on powerpc (and i heard about some guys with a room full of imacs), these could be the chance to get it going, so please register a project on the above site. Also, if someone is interested in working on the free flash players, i will personally support this project :) Friendly, Sven Luther -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
