Dear list, while supporting non-linux samba clients, it might be interesting to know of the OPSI.org project. I witnessed its functionality during Linuxtag: Besides Samba, Wine, Moodle and LiMux, OPSI was one of Skolelinux neighbour booths.
OPSI offers debian packages and a Java GUI for - unattended installation of Windows clients - centralized updates (WOL) - client based updates (pull before login). OPSI uses the NTFS file system so it is not designed for deploying Linux clients. It is GPLed, however, so it is worth a trial for hybrid networks.
