To get a newer kernel on the machines, I ended up upgrading the machines from oldstable to stable. I'm upgrading user.s.n first, to get some experience before starting on a.s.n. Please approach me on IRC (#debian-edu on irc.debian.org) if you have questions, comments or objections.
