Well, it's no idea, it is how Debian-Med packages work for years. Just look at them (and their dependencies cdd-common and the build dependency cdd-dev). Feel free to ask any questions. Ahh, well and while reading again the URL above I see it is out of date. The menu entries in fact *will be created in postinst* and are generated from installed packages.
