Using ssh do not create the file in /var/run/console/, but I just checked the directory in my standalone install, and was surprised to discover daemon:7. Looking in /var/log/auth.log, it seem to be created by cron. Also, I am starting to wonder if not CDs always are accessable to all the users on a machine. How does this work if root is logged in using kdm and another user is logged in using one of the text consoles?
