Dear developers, dear friends, for your information:
Press Release regarding strategic cooperation of three communities Declaration of cooperation: Linux4Afrika, Skolelinux.de and x2go As part of FreiOSS.net, Linux4Afrika had been collecting and overhauling used hardware since 2006, in order to send it to school projects in Africa. So far, several containers each filled with 200 pc, monitors, keyboards and mice has been sent to Tanzania and Mosambique. The next recipients will be schools in Kenia and Malawi. Skolelinux has been developed in Norway in 2002. It is based on Debian and by now used all over the world. Next to several local initiatives, so far, 2 German provinces, Hamburg and Rheinland-Pfalz, support Skolelinux as official linux solution for schools. X2go has been developed since 2006 and is used by Linux4Afrika. X2go is the terminal server solution that allows old hardware to work as thinclients with new software. Skolelinux schools are called to collect used hardware that can be send to Africa through Linux4Afrika. Beside these hardware donations it is planned to develop partnerships between Skolelinux and Linux4Afrika schools in Afrika and Europe. This is obvious as both projects are based on equal systems. X2go gives the opportunity for skolelinux schools to work from home on the pc at school using the internet. It also offers clients for Windows, Mac and Linux. Additionally x2go makes the exchange between different schools possible e.g. if they are working on a common project.
