An alternative we discussed once, was to add support in one of our udebs to look for a 'gateway' kernel argument, and set up the network with one interface using DHCP and one interface as 10.0.2.1. A few iptables rules later, we would have a router ready for use in Skolelinux. By adding a gateway entry to the isolinux menu and adding 20 lines of shell script to debian-edu-profile-udeb, we would be able to include a working gateway solution for Skolelinux.
