We can fix that by removing usplash when installing on a machine with this PCI device. The other is the grub issue, which I suspect is caused by the user of a USB stick during installation. This causes grub to be installed on the wrong device (the USB stick and not the hard disk), as documented on <URL: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Documentation/Lenny/Installation#AnoteonsomeRAIDcontrollers >. Viggo, can you confirm that the USB stick was in the machine when partitioning was done?
