The result from laptop-detect is collected using sitesummary-client, and used to generate the Nagios configuration. See /usr/sbin/sitesummary-update-nagios and /usr/sbin/sitesummary-nodes for the scripts generating the Nagios configuration. If you want to check a laptop anyway, install and configure the nagios-nrpe-server package on the laptop.
