IMHO is root not the right one to get system mails. There should be an local admin-user who acts as the postmaster with lower rights. So there should end up all system mails at that account. The /etc/aliases may look for example like this, especially the last line: # /etc/aliases mailer-daemon: postmaster postmaster: root nobody: root hostmaster: root usenet: root news: root webmaster: root www: root ftp: root abuse: root noc: root security: root logcheck: root root: jever > > Right.
