When testing the Debian Edu/Squeeze desktop, I notice the browser is horribly slow. This is caused by our use of automatic proxy configuration (PAC/WPAD). See <URL: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=235853 > for the upstream bug report.
By moving away /etc/debian-edu/www/wpad.dat on the main server, the browser stop using the squid proxy and become responsive. The problem is with DNS lookups and wpad handling in Firefox, which block the entire browser. A workaround to get faster browser experience would be to switch back to non-wpad proxy configuration, but this will break the nice feature of roaming workstations that they also work outside the Debian Edu network, unless we find a workaround for that problem.
