Subject: Audio for root not working
User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.21 (2010-09-15)

Hi,

I've a strange audio behaviour.

On a plain debian install I can use commands like

"play /path/to/some/audio.ogg" or equivalents with aplay.

On debian edu workstation audio works fine as normal user,
but as root doesn't work, with the following error:

---------------------------------------
No protocol specified
xcb_connection_has_error() returned true
No protocol specified
xcb_connection_has_error() returned true
ALSA lib pulse.c:243:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Connection
refused

play FAIL sox: Sorry, there is no default audio device configured
-----------------------------------------

using "play" as normal user works

Any idea?

Regards

Giorgio

P.S: I really need to play sound as root to setup
school bell.
