Does debian have an infrastructure team that could take charge of maintaining a free software alternative to Transifex?
At Sugar Labs we use "Pootle" quite successfully (see http://translate.sugarlabs.org/ ) I'd be willing to advice and help maintain an instance if there is a team to share responsibility with. I agree we shouldn't be using non-free tools.
