xtide has gradually lost relevance due to a lack of relevant data,
because data that were distributed with considerable freedom at one
time, got un-published (see
https://flaterco.com/xtide/faq.html#renaissance and the legacy data
paragraph just above it).

A good replacement would be eo-tides (see
https://joss.theoj.org/papers/10.21105/joss.07786.pdf). It is free
(Apache License 2.0) and actively maintained
(https://github.com/GeoscienceAustralia/eo-tides/tree/main) but not in
Debian (yet).
