You can't use ifupdown, as if it is not the only network managemente system
into Debian. I myself use network-manager, which conflicts with ifupdown
setup. The better would be to use ifconfig only (or better yet, ip from
iproute2 package) since it is the low-level tool for that matter.

I had to remove the ifupdown line from my script for it to work. Otherwise,
wireless would be on for 1s only, and shut down again. Plus, with my 900
model, wireless does not work after a suspend / resume cycle, I still must
find time to investigate both issues (might be related).
