Thanks for tracking that down. It looks as if 915resolution was originally included in Debian because it could be used with the Intel X driver, but was removed when te X driver improved and that combination was no longer needed. However, it is still useful for setting non-BIOS-supported console screen modes. (Hmm, actually maybe this is a new use that didn't exist when it was removed; I'm not sure when uvesafb was introduced.) Anyway, perhaps it should be re-introduced. It is a rather trivial program and I don't imagine that maintaining it for Debian would involve much work. I will write some of this up for the Wiki; if anyone has any comments please let me know now.
