I tried this, along with the boot parameter suggested earlier.  Neither 
worked.  Is there anything else one can do to try to hibernate a 701 
machine to a swap partition on the sd disk, and have restoration work?

For the 701 I think this is necessary, if we are going to be able to 
hibernate, since with only 4g of /dev/sda  there is hardly ever going to 
be enough room at the inn for a swap partition bigger than your RAM.
