I still get disconnect errors but the problem only occurred once with
the new drivers (with 1.7.1.1 it disconnected and worked on reconnect,
whereas with 1.8.0.0 it wouldn't reconnect.) I suppose that this
counts as an improvement.

I get a similar error in dmesg though.

With 1.8.0.0:

<==== RTMPInitialize, Status=0
0x1300 = 000a4200
RX DESC f6abb000  size = 2048
<-- RTMPAllocTxRxRingMemory, Status=0
--> Error 2 opening /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat
1. Phy Mode = 0
2. Phy Mode = 0
3. Phy Mode = 0
MCS Set = 00 00 00 00 00

With 1.7.1.1:

<==== RTMPInitialize, Status=0
0x1300 = 00064300
RX DESC f2a01000  size = 2048
<-- RTMPAllocTxRxRingMemory, Status=0
1. Phy Mode = 9
2. Phy Mode = 9
3. Phy Mode = 9
MCS Set = ff ff 00 00 01
