-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello,
I'd like to join the team on alioth and thus help Debian working optimally on the EEE-'platform'. I currently maintain a few packages and intend to do more since I like the whole approach of the EEE's. Personally I own a black 900A currently running testing :-) Great. We are certainly always looking for people interested in helping out. Anyway as far as my planned contribution to the project is concerned, I'd like to enhance WiFi integration in general. Since madwifi's/atheros' FOSS (ath5k) has been in mainline since 2.6.25 the migration from the current 'special eee images' will need to take place sooner or later. Whilst ath5k did make the debian 2.6.25 kernel, the 2425 chipset thats in the eee is not supported untill the 2.6.27 mainline kernel. We therefore need to backport the driver for 2.6.26 which is not really an easy task, as it involves mac80211 changes as well as whatever has changed in any netdev parts of the kernel as well. It is possible to use compat-wireless-old which appears to work from the minimal testing I have done, though its not really an easy thing to package. (I have been considering this myself) I hope to contribute in that respect. Another task would be to enhance the installer showing the ssid's of the current available networks arround while installing - which would be a simple but still useful feature as well. Certainly a usefull feature, but I wouldn't say an easy thing to do. If you have C experience and would like to help, I would certainly like to here from you as adding this to netcfg is another thing on my todo list. See our git repo for my netcfg patches so far for adding WPA support to the installer. One of my main goals I'd like to see achieved is truly working hibernation, however. Since nettops were made for mobile use mostly, hibernation is an important feature which should be fully supported in the first place and hence should work out of the box - which the current installer unfortunately does not ensure at all. Hibernation is certainly something that we would like some help with. If you can help in any way here to make suspend/hibernate work out of the box reliably, we would love to hear from you. Also the whole lot of powermanagement/ACPI issues might be of importance. (At least personally I am suffering loads here and currently had not time/no opportunity to discuss on this issue with others, which I hope will have a change then). I think netbooks in general got potential - and at least personally I'd like to help using this to it's full capacity - which is why I ask to join the team and dedicate some of my time towards an interesting project :-) We'd love to here from you, probably the best way for us to get to know you is if you join us in #debian-eeepc on the oftc network (irc.debian.org) Look forward to hearing from you! regards, Patrick Cheers Glenn -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkk5PIgACgkQV8GyuTwyskPIXQCfXJ8f3+Opz/xRJnxnEH2qaNM2 VH4Anj0xXGkp9399giz5FjsGgrtEArQd =v62A -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ Debian-eeepc-devel mailing list [email protected] http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/debian-eeepc-devel
