What kind of issues? I had not heard of any outstanding alsa issues
affecting 900a, which is a rather old model and therefore, I thought,
all the kinks had been worked out already in the alsa version in 2.6.32.

There are a number of ALC269 fixes upstream in git that would not be
available in the latest upstream release. Perhaps you need to build alsa
from git to make it work?  See:
