I am not a new emacs user - I migrated from Gosling's emacs on 4.0BSD many years ago. I also think this idea is not well thought out - here's why.
I have about 1 hour/day to do linux related stuff. If I have to spend time propogating my very large, complicated .emacs file to some other format, it takes away from the time I have to do real stuff. This will annoy me. I suspect it will annoy pretty much anybody.
