There is currently a long thread on the develop list about the possibility of dropping support from the i386 architecture for at best just 386 processors and at worst everything except 686 processors.
This is because of various things like the new thread support and some locking issues. The discussion seems to be completely ignoring embedded processors, many of which are 486 and 586 rather than the more modern chips found in desktop and laptop machines. There seems to be no-one but me putting up the arguement that the embedded market needs support for these older chips. Is anyone else worried about this change in policy by Debian? David
