Yep. We do this every day. (for arm and armel targets). We have not run into problems with the fact that the kernel is 2.4 and in fact the same apps work fine on 2.4 and 2.6 kernels (we use 2.6 kernels on newer hardware, but the shipping stuff is still 2.4 for the next month or so of production, then it is finally gone - horray!). If your application was particularly using kernel features then I expect you could find problems where you would need to be careful about kernel-headers and glibc.
