I understand your goal with the patches; I wonder whether you'd be
tempted to add an unconditional binutils static pass instead, as to
have a static version of libbfd?
The reason I'm asking for that is because some packages actually link
to libbfd and end up with a hard-dependency on the binutils version
used for that, but they would really be fine statically linking with
it.
This is the case of the linux perf tools for instance.
