I always use dpkg-crossed packages, and the following works for me: arm-linux-gnu-gcc `PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/arm-linux-gnu/lib/pkgconfig pkg-config --cflags --libs glib-2.0` a.c I'm not sure that your chroot method is supported.
