Francesco-

Let me make sure i'm 100% clear:

my call is:

install.packages("rgdal", configure.args = c("--with-gdal-config=/nfs/
user08/bw4sz/Gdal/gdal-1.9.0/apps/gdal-config"),

I haven't specifically called a .la location, that was the default once i
linked to my gdal-config file. Are you saying that the appropriate
gdal-config file is not under the apps folder? Or that i should link it
outside of the call to install rgdal?

I had anticipate a bin folder, but when i configured and made the tar, the
only gdal-config file i could find was under the apps folder.

Thanks so much for your help,

Ben
