FYI - I ran some tests this morning before work and the regular glibc package still miscompiles ldconfig, but a regular "../glibc-2.2.94/configure --prefix=/usr --enable-add-ons; make" compile works fine.
I should now have a good set of object files to compare, though. Hopefully I'm close.
