Java 1.4.0 appears to be unable to find __libc_waitpid,

Unable to load native library:
/opt/java/j2sdk1.4.0/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so: symbol __libc_waitpid,
version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
Similar issue found with wine (20020904)
/usr/bin/wine.bin: relocation error: /usr/bin/../lib/libntdll.dll.so:

with link time reference
Wine failed with return code 127
