Hello again, weird things are afoot. Using chpax, I cleared all restrictions, which can be verified thus:
emma:~# chpax -v /usr/bin/localedef ----[ chpax 0.4 : Current flags for /usr/bin/localedef ]---- * Paging based PAGE_EXEC : disabled * Trampolines : not emulated * mprotect() : not restricted * mmap() base : not randomized * ET_EXEC base : not randomized * Segmentation based PAGE_EXEC : disabled emma:~# BUT, it is still PAX killing of localedef: Oct 15 22:28:54 emma kernel: PAX: terminating task: /usr/bin/localedef(localedef):18695, uid/euid: 0/0, EIP: BFF3A690, ESP: BFF3A57C Oct 15 22:28:54 emma kernel: PAX: bytes at EIP: b9 30 ac f3 bf e9 26 b0 13 48 00 00 0c ae 08 08 06 00 00 00 HEY, don't loose sleep over this. It would be nice if localedef didn't execute memory (if indeed it does), but I only regard this a wishlist item.
