Ben, I forgot to mention that there should be no issues with building glibc with the previous patches under gcc < 3.1 as long as binutils, 2.12.90.0.14-1, or newer is installed. The libgcc-compat patch tickled a bug in binutils regarding weak symbols...

I mention this so you know adding the libgcc-compat patch shouldn't impact building glibc 2.2.5 with gcc < 3.1 (for a woody build for example).
