I've found out that this only occurs on my system because I've got /usr/lib /lib listed in /etc/ld.so.conf. As the default order seems to be /lib:/usr/lib, it isn't as serious as I thought it was. However, I still don't think that ldconfig should create symlinks to symlinks. It certainly didn't do that in woody.
