This is most probably a bug of debian-installer, dpkg or apt. Could you please answer the few questions below to help us understand the problem: - What's the output of "dpkg -l libc6-i686"? - Do you have a /usr/share/doc/libc6-i686 directory? If yes what is the first entry at the top of /usr/share/doc/libc6-i686/changelog.Debian.gz? - Do you have any mentions of libc6-i686 in /var/log/dpkg.log.*? - When did you installed your system and which install CD did you use? -- .''`.
