Well, I looked at the kernel sources and it was calling memcpy. I recompiled it to see what was happening and the problem went away. The only difference was that I compiled by hand (with "make") instead of using the debian tool to compile it, and it was compiled under etch. So it's not a problem any more, but if you see this again you know what it is.
