It could be a documentation bug[*], but I'm not sure since Debian scripts assume that LANGUAGE can be used alone. For instance, the /etc/default/locale file generated by Debian contains:
# File generated by update-locale #LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LANGUAGE="en_US:en" [*] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=311259 -- Vincent Lefèvre <[email protected]> - Web: <http://www.vinc17.net/> 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: <http://www.vinc17.net/blog/> Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / Arénaire project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
