Apple has several locale functions suffixed with _l: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man3/xlocale.3.html#//apple_ref/doc/man/3/xlocale
which take a locale_t as last argument freeing them from dependence on the LOCALE environment, as is the case with the normal locale functions (without the _l suffix) (see: http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/intro-i18n/ch-locale.en.html ) Is there some gcc library that has these functions for other OS's?
